Frequently asked questions
MyGradeLayer is where employees grade and review their managers and business leaders anonymously, share interview experiences, and see how people and companies rank. Below are short answers to the questions we hear most. Can't find yours? Use our Contact Us form.
Getting started
A place to grade the people you work with: managers, directors, CEOs and colleagues. Members
write anonymous reviews and interview reviews, and each person builds up a rating and a status
(MVP, All Right or Fugazy). Companies are listed by industry and ranked by how their people are
graded.
Click Register and fill in the form. We e-mail you a confirmation link; open it
to confirm your account before you sign in. After that, sign in with your e-mail address and
password. If the sign-in page shows Google or LinkedIn
buttons, you can use one of those accounts instead. MyGradeLayer is only for people 18 and older.
Yes. Members can add a colleague, manager, director or CEO as a new profile. Only the person
themselves can claim that profile later.
Yes. Open the profile and choose Claim. We send a verification link to the
e-mail address you enter; open it to finish claiming the profile. If you would rather not be on
MyGradeLayer at all, see Account & privacy.
Reviews & anonymity
Yes, by default. A review or interview review is posted as Anonymous unless
you choose to post it under your own name in the "Post as" box. To protect you further:
- e-mail addresses, phone numbers, links and social media handles in your text are removed automatically;
- reviews are published in a daily batch, not the moment you post them (see below);
- public dates show only the month and year.
We still keep the link between your account and what you wrote, so we can stop abuse, handle reports and answer valid legal requests. Leave out details that would identify you. More in our Privacy Policy.
Not right away. If a grade appeared minutes after a meeting, the person could guess who wrote
it. So new reviews, interview reviews and replies are published in the next daily batch, after
a short delay, together with everything else posted that day. Until then only you can see
yours, marked Pending with the date it will be published. A pending review
does not change anyone's rating.
A star grade (a positive grade from 1 to 5, or a negative grade from -5 to -1), whether you
recommend the person, how you know them (for example colleague, client or supervisor), a
headline and your comments. You cannot review yourself. You can edit or delete your own
reviews later.
A review of someone you met in a job interview, for example the person who interviewed you as a
candidate. It is graded the same way as a review, is anonymous by default, and counts toward the
person's rating.
Use the Flag option on the review or interview review and pick a reason. A
flagged review is hidden and stops counting toward the rating while our team looks at it.
Ratings & status
It is the average of the grades in the person's published reviews and interview reviews. When a
person has both, the review average and the interview average count equally. Pending and
flagged reviews and replies are not counted. Someone with no published grades starts at 2.5.
Every person and company starts at the default rating of 2.5 with the status
All Right. Their own rating replaces it as soon as they receive their
first review or interview review. Rankings list rated people and companies
first; the rest of each industry follows with the default rating.
The status comes from the rating:
Companies get a status the same way, from the average rating of their people.
| Status | Rating |
|---|---|
| MVP | above 3.4 |
| All Right | above 2.4, up to 3.4 |
| Fugazy | 2.4 or below |
For each industry, The Best lists the highest-rated people and
The Worst the lowest-rated people at companies in that industry. Only people
with enough published reviews and interview reviews are ranked.
Companies
A company's rating is the average rating of its people. Companies are grouped by industry. In
each industry, the Fortunate 1000 lists the top-rated companies and the
Wall of Shame the lowest-rated ones (up to 1,000 each). A company is only
ranked once its people have enough published reviews and interview reviews in total.
Yes. Members can add a company, and when you register you can type the name of a company that
is not listed yet. If a company with that name already exists, we use it instead of making a
copy. A company added this way is unclaimed (not verified) until someone from
the company claims it.
Open the company page and choose Claim. You confirm your details and your work
e-mail, verify your phone number, then download, fill in and upload the contract agreement. Our
team then checks the claim. Once it is verified, you become the company's owner on MyGradeLayer
and we let you know by e-mail and notification.
Feed, Jobs & plans
The Feed is where members share posts and updates. Jobs lists
open positions; members can apply, save jobs and follow their applications.
Reading MyGradeLayer and writing reviews is free. Paid subscriptions (Standard, Business and
Enterprise, monthly or yearly) add extra features; the Enterprise plan includes the
Employer dashboard and job posting. Each plan's features and price are shown on
the subscription page before you pay. Payments are handled securely by our payment processor. You can cancel at any time
from your subscription settings and keep the paid features until the end of the period you paid
for. See "Paid features and payments" in our Terms of Service.
Account & privacy
Open the profile and click Remove my profile at the bottom of the page. You can
ask for yourself or as someone authorized to act for the person, and you do not need an account.
Our team reviews every request. Once it is approved, the profile and the reviews and interview
reviews about that person are hidden from public view on MyGradeLayer and from MyGradeLayer's
search, and we e-mail you to confirm. Other search engines may take some time to update.
Click Report on the profile and tell us what is wrong. Our team reviews every
report.
Sign in and open your account settings. There you can change your e-mail and password, turn on
two-factor authentication and, under
Personal data, download your data or delete
your account. Deleting your account is permanent.
